LOT-G11. For your consideration is a rare and historically important original vintage c.1962 Royal Canadian military appointment commission document in the name of H.M. Queen Elizabeth II, appointing Richard John Cook as an officer in the Canadian Armed Forces, boldly hand-signed by the Governor General of Canada, Georges-Philias Vanier, and Minister of National Defense, Douglass Harkness, in black and blue fountain pen ink respectively.
The document is an official military commission from Queen Elizabeth II, appointing Richard John Cook as an officer in the Canadian Armed Forces, specifically to the rank of Second Lieutenant. Elizabeth the Second, By the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom, Canada, and Her other Realms and Territories, Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith. To Our Trusty and well beloved [Richard John Cook] Greeting: We reposing special Trust and Confidence in your Loyalty, Courage and good Conduct do by these Presents Constitute and Appoint you to be an Officer in Our Canadian Armed Forces in the rank of Second Lieutenant.
You are therefore carefully and diligently to discharge your Duty as such in the Rank of Lieutenant or in such higher Rank as we may from time-to-time hereafter be pleased to promote or appoint you to, of doing and performing all manner of things thereunto belonging. And we do hereby command all our officers and non-commissioned members to obey you as their superior officer, and you are to observe and follow such orders and directions as you shall from time to time receive from us, or any superior officer according to law, in pursuance of the trust hereby reposed in you.
